Dispute a Review or Request a Takedown
There are two separate processes on this page. Use the dispute process if you are an agent and a review on your profile breaches our guidelines. Use the takedown process if you need content or personal information removed for a legal or privacy reason.
Before you file a dispute
Your public response is usually the better tool. It appears directly beneath the review, it is seen by everyone who reads it, and responding counts toward the response rate component of your ranking. A measured reply to a critical review often reads better to a prospective client than the review itself.
A dispute is for reviews that breach the review guidelines, not for reviews you disagree with.
Grounds we will act on
- The reviewer was never a client, and you can say why you believe that.
- The review is from a connected party, such as a competing agent.
- It contains personal information about an identifiable third party.
- It contains discriminatory content.
- It is defamatory, or hosting it would breach a court order.
- It was submitted in exchange for payment or an incentive.
- It relates to a different agent, or a transaction you had no part in.
Grounds we will not act on
- You disagree with the reviewer account of what happened.
- The review is negative, or it affects your ranking.
- The transaction did not complete, or the client changed their plans.
- The complaint concerns a commission rate set out in a signed agreement.
Dispute form
Takedown and privacy requests
Use this if you need content removed for a legal reason, or if you want personal information about you removed or corrected under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. This is a separate process from a review dispute and it is open to anyone, not only agents.
You can also reach us directly at [email protected] for a dispute, or [email protected] for a privacy request. Our privacy officer contact details are on the privacy policy. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy request you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Common questions
Will you remove a review because I disagree with it?
No. A review is removed only where it breaches the published review guidelines, where we are legally required to remove it, or where the reviewer withdraws it. Disagreeing with a reviewer account of events is not itself grounds for removal. Your public response is the tool for that, and it appears directly beneath the review.
How long does a dispute take?
We acknowledge every dispute in writing when we receive it and tell you the outcome with our reasoning. If we need information from the reviewer we will contact them, which extends the timeline. We do not hide the reviewer identity from the process, but we also do not disclose their contact details to you.
What happens to the review while you assess it?
It stays published unless it alleges something that would be unlawful to host, in which case we unpublish it while we assess. We take that approach because temporarily removing every disputed review would turn the dispute process into a way of suppressing criticism.
What if the review alleges professional misconduct?
Allegations of misconduct by a registered real estate professional are a matter for the Real Estate Council of Ontario, which has a formal complaints process and statutory powers. We are not a regulator and we do not adjudicate misconduct. We will assess the review against our guidelines, and we will point both parties to RECO.
